LECTURES

Week 1 Lecture
(Lab 1)
The first week we got a quick briefing of Illustration & Visual Narrative by Mr.Hafiz and he requested us to play this game called The Bezier Game. This game is to let us get more familiar with the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator. It's quite challenging to me because we can't use more than 15 nodes to finish our last challenge so I decided to use 14 nodes to accomplish it.

Task 1: Vormator Character Design

Week 2, Mr.Hafiz assigned us to do a task which the following rules have to be followed when we create our artwork:

1)We are allowed to rotate, flip and duplicate the Elements.

2) We have to use all the Elements Scaling is allowed, but proportionally, so skewing or free transform.

3)We can add, subtract, intersect and group elements as we see fit.

4)The use of colour is unrestricted; we can create our own colour schemes (e.g. use Adobe Colour).

5)We are allowed to use gradientsThe Elements may be filled, the use of strokes is allowed.

6)We are also allowed to use filters or effects (e.g. drop shadows).

I decided to create a spider as my Vormator Character so I googled the picture of a spider and imitated its outline.

Exercise -
Chiaroscuro Exercise (Pear)
(Lab 2)
Week 3 we used shapes, establishing light and dark to give the item weight. This week exercise is to draw a pear and make it cut into slices. Add light and shadow by using some tools in Adobe Illustrator which are pathfinder, shape builder and knife tool.

Use the knife tool to cut the pear into slice.

Mr. Hafiz asked us to add the skeleton head into the pear using the same steps that we did in the previous work.

Exercise - Chiaroscuro Exercise (People)
(Lab 2)
In Illustrator, there are six blending modes: Normal, Darken, Lighten, Contrast, Inversion, and Component. Each of these modes works a little differently, so it's important to know which one to use for which effect.

REFLECTION
From week 1 to week 5, I have learned  a lot of skilful knowledge in digital work. The process is quite hard for me but I found it very interesting when I am more comfortable in using Adobe Illustrator. In these past few weeks I also felt that creativity is very important to always improve it by doing research. I’m looking forward to improving my skills and creating different kinds of beautiful work in the future.
