Project 1 - Exercise 1
I recorded all my dialogue on my phone using voice memos and marked it in order. All recordings I have tried multiple times to choose the most suitable one.
Figure 1.1
Spreadsheet
Mr. Martin grouped us randomly into 6 people to do the spreadsheet to be convenient for us in the future working process and we completed the spreadsheet halfway in the campus. After fully completed, then we started doing the audio dubbing exercise. Mr. Martin provided some links to collect the free sound effects, we mostly used Freesound, Pixabay and YouTube free sound effects to complete our task.

The movie : Everything, Everywhere, All at Once
This is the original video provided by Mr. Martin and we want to add the sound effects.

Mr. Martin required us to have 10 tracks of sound effects on the timeline to edit it and differentiate it as 3 part. Music is not required in the video and all the dialogue should be recorded by ourselves.
1) A1-A3 : Dialogues, one character one track
  • A1 Waymond
  • A2 Evelyn
  • A3 Office lady
2) A4-A7 : Sound effects
3) A8-A10 : Ambience sound

Adding 3 more tracks in the timeline.

Figure 1.4
I first imported all my dialogue and video footage into Adobe Premiere Pro. I started to arrange the dialogue in a suitable timeline.

Figure 1.5
Then I started to edit the characters' voice in Audio Effects - Pitch Shifter - Semi Tones.

Figure 1.6
After completing the part of the dialogue, I started importing the sound effects that were already chosen in the spreadsheet to Adobe Premiere Pro and cutting some of the appropriate sounds by using the in/out tools then send it down to the timeline.

Finally, for the ambience sound part, I also cut out some of the parts to use in my video. The ambience sound I choose is not really obvious because I don't want my sound effects and dialogues get covered by the ambience sound.

Final Project 1 - Exercise 1

Project 1 - Exercise 2
In exercise 2 we have to record our own voice for 5 seconds to do the audio editing. Mr. Martin required us to do 5 different sound shaping.
  • Voice of phone call
  • Voice coming from inside of closet
  • Voice of toilet / bathroom
  • Underground cave
  • Alien / orc voice
We had a first try demonstrated by Mr. Martin in class so we are more familiar with it. I recorded my dialogue "Hello everyone I'm Wee Han, this is my VSP sound shaping exercise" on my phone and imported it into Adobe Audition to start my sound shaping.

Phone call
I apply the Parametric Equaliser to bring down the bass, treble and raise the mid-range.
Figure 2.1 Phone call

Closet
Same as the phone call, I apply the Parametric Equaliser to remain the bass, treble to the bottom and raise mid-range to the top.
Figure 2.2 Closet

Toilet / bathroom
I apply Reverb to my track and adjust the decay time to make it longer reverb tails, pre-decay time, diffusion and perception.
Figure 2.3 Toilet / bathroom

Underground cave
I also apply Reverb to it and adjust the decay time higher than the toilet decay time and also adjust the pre decay-time, diffusion and perception.

Alien / orc
I first apply the Pitch Shifter to adjust the semi-tones to lower the voice to -8  and -10. Then, I also apply the Phaser to another track.

Lastly, I imported all the audio into Premiere Pro and combined it into a video, I also added the description to the video.

Final Project 1 - Exercise 2

REFLECTION
This is my first time doing this kind of assignment by using our own voice to record the dialogues. I really enjoyed doing this exercise, it was really interesting and new for me. The spreadsheet helps a lot in my progression in editing the sound effects, it's really useful to organize all the things before starting editing. After accomplishing this exercise, I have become more familiar with using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition to edit videos and do audio dubbing. It will be a memorable experience to have this opportunity to do this exercise.
